Motor Claims Manager

Role Responsibilities:

Leads the handling of complex and high-value motor claims (including BI, liability disputes and catastrophic losses).

Applies BI jurisprudence and internal BI methodology accurately and consistently.

Reviews survey and repair assessments with expert-level understanding of vehicle damage, repair techniques, BER decisions and reserve adequacy.

Ensures technical decisions reduce leakage, support recoveries and protect the company’s financial position.

Provides escalated technical guidance to claims handlers and other departments.

Represents the company confidently in Maltese and English courts.

Manages legal correspondence, supports litigation strategy, and liaises closely with external lawyers.

Ensures all claims practices align with internal policies, system procedures, regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Coaches the team on legal developments, BI case law, and liability principles.
Oversees system workflows, claims processes, payments accuracy and operational controls.
Performs file reviews to identify leakage, improve reserve accuracy, and drive quality outcomes. -
Supports digital and finance teams with system testing, data validation and payment governance.

Drives SLA compliance across surveys, repairs and vendor submissions.
Negotiates with repairers, surveyors and suppliers to optimise cost without compromising quality. -
Implements technical controls (e.g., dismantling, temporary repairs) to reduce unnecessary delays and exposure.

Monitors and evaluates vendor performance using KPIs, SLAs and structured feedback loops.

Identifies opportunities for cost savings, vendor improvement and process optimisation.

Leads, develops and motivates the Motor Claims team to deliver technical excellence and service quality.

Conducts routine coaching, performance reviews, capability assessments and training sessions.

Promotes a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Supports onboarding and technical upskilling for new hires.

Acts as the main contact point between Claims, Underwriting, Finance, Digital and Customer Service.

Communicates complex technical decisions clearly and persuasively to internal and external stakeholders.

Represents the company within the Insurance Association of Malta and other industry platforms.

Builds strong relationships with legal partners, surveyors, repair networks, and external agencies.
Skills, Experience & Attributes:
-
7–10 years in senior motor claims roles, including team leadership and operational oversight.

Preferably ACII qualified, or a degree in Insurance, Banking & Finance, Risk Management, Business, or a related field (MQF Level 6), with a recognised insurance qualification (e.g., Cert CII).

Strong knowledge of motor liability principles, vehicle repair processes, BI calculations, VAT procedures, and Maltese/international insurance regulations.

Full fluency in Maltese and English, excellent communication and negotiation abilities, and proficiency in claims systems, estimating tools, MS Office, and analytics platforms (e.g., Power BI).

Proven experience in cost control, vendor management, and budget monitoring within the local insurance or automotive sector.

Analytical thinker with advanced problem-solving skills.

Strong communicator capable of explaining complex technical issues.

Commercially aware with a focus on cost control and process improvement.
